Inspiring Artists Compete in Vans Shoe-Design Competition

In a local competition, four students were selected to design shoes for Vans Custom Culture, a national high school shoe customization contest where schools from all over the United States compete for a chance to win money for their art programs. Pictured from left to right are Art Teacher Mrs. Shelton (standing in for Skylar Wentz), Skylar Manning, Sydney Gloor and Tori Stewart.

The Top Five finalists of this national competition will be flown to New York City for an exclusive Vans Custom Culture Final Event where the winner will be selected. The grand-prize winning school will receive a $50,000 prize for their art program, and the chance for their shoes to be produced and sold in Vans' retail stores. The four runner-up schools will also receive money for their art programs.

The Vans Custom Culture art competition is in its fifth year. It serves to inspire high-school students across the United States to embrace their creativity, and draws attention to the importance of art as an integral part of our schools' focus in the face of shrinking budgets.
